I Got Dumped Via Text Message

From Mamiverse May 27, 2012:

Recently, I was dumped via text message. But perhaps what’s even more ridiculous is that this is the second time this has happened to me. On both occasions, when I tried to make a phone call—to at least preserve some of my dignity and get broken up with the old fashioned way, by phone—I only got the guy’s voicemail. Then again, there was that breakup email I got when my boyfriend was serving in Iraq….

I guess what’s strangest about this type of modern romance is that it doesn’t really phase me. Courting does take place via text messages and social media these days, at least for my generation. I actually met one of these guys on Twitter, so it made sense to me to continue to relate that way, albeit not necessarily in 140 characters or less. These relationships largely played out via text, Facebook, email, Twitter, so why wouldn’t they end that way also?

But I can’t help but wonder what’s lost in translation there—does taking love to technology dull its luster?
