About Me
Last modified: April 28, 2011
I’m Sara Inés Calderón, journalist, reporter, blogger, photographer, videographer and writer. Right now I’m both the editor of News Taco and a tech reporter for Inside Facebook.
My previous experience includes working as: Â an immigration reporter on the border in Brownsville, Texas at The Brownsville Herald; a Spanish language reporter serving immigrants in Austin, Texas at The Austin American-Statesman; a South Texas reporter in San Antonio at The San Antonio Express-News and a reporter in rural Northern California at The Sacramento Valley Mirror.
In the 10 years I’ve been working as a journalist, I’ve worked on issues ranging from immigration and Mexican politics to agriculture and education from Brownsville to San Diego, CA, to Laredo, San Antonio, Eagle Pass, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley.
I’ve covered everything from natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes), immigration (the border fence, other than Mexican immigrants, beefed up security along the border), Mexican politics (the 2006 Mexican presidential election), political scandals (a mayor registered as a sex offender, a constable practicing without a peace officer’s license, a city councilman arrested during a meeting) and of course truly South Texas happenings (pens made of cow excrement, the princess of the peanut festival busted for credit card fraud).
